The number under the video rises, but TikTok, according to its own description, recommends videos mainly based on how viewers watch them and how they react. The platform's rules also prohibit artificially increasing interactions, so the numbers may be removed and the account may be restricted.

How does TikTok decide whom to show a video to?

TikTok recommends videos based on a combination of signals from users, information about the video, and device and account settings, with signals from viewers carrying the greatest weight. The mere number of views is not the main factor among the described factors.

• User interactions: videos that the viewer likes or shares, accounts they follow, comments they write, and content they create themselves.
• Information about the video: caption, sound and hashtags.

An important note on signal weighting: according to TikTok, a strong indicator of interest is, for example, whether a viewer watches a longer video from start to finish. A weaker signal is, for instance, that the viewer and the creator are from the same country. TikTok also explicitly states that the number of followers or previously successful videos are not direct recommendation factors.

What do purchased video views do?

Purchased views mainly change the visible number under the video. They do not change whether the video appeals to the people TikTok shows it to, and according to the platform's description, that is what matters.

What you can and cannot expect from them:

• They can act as social proof. Social proof is a phenomenon in which people perceive content as more interesting because others have already seen it.
• They do not replace content. If a video does not have a strong opening and a reason to watch it through, a higher number will not change anything.
• They do not guarantee reach, placement on For You, new followers, comments or sales.
• They can worsen the ratio of views to likes, comments and shares. A video with a high number of views and almost no reactions may seem suspicious to an attentive viewer or a business partner.
• They do not reveal anything about your audience. In your statistics they get mixed with data from viewers who found the video themselves, so it is harder to tell what works with your content.

What do TikTok's rules say about buying views?

TikTok's Community Guidelines prohibit trading in services that artificially inflate engagement or deceive the recommendation system. Purchased views fall into this category, so restrictions on reach or on the account cannot be ruled out.

In the section Integrity and Authenticity of TikTok's Community Guidelines it states (as of October 2026):

• it does not allow accounts that attempt to deceive or manipulate the platform, nor trade in services that artificially inflate engagement or deceive the recommendation system,
• if it finds accounts or content with inauthentic metrics, fake likes, followers and other inflated signals, it removes them,
• content that attempts to manipulate engagement is not eligible to be shown on For You,
• for deceptive behavior, an account may be blocked, other newly created accounts may also be blocked, or the account may be restricted, for example in posting new content, in appearing among top search results, or on For You.

Eligibility standards for For You are summarised on a separate page For You Feed Eligibility Standards, which refers to the “FYF Ineligible” sections in the individual chapters of the rules. The rules may change, so please check the current wording directly on the TikTok website.

The same is explicitly stated by terms of service (Art. 3.3) sledujici.eu: platforms do not permit purchased interactions, and account restrictions cannot be ruled out. These are platform rules, i.e. contractual terms, not law.

What is the difference between purchased views and Promote on TikTok?

Promote is a paid feature offered by TikTok itself: you pay the platform to show your video to more people. A purchased package of views is a third-party service that TikTok's rules do not permit.

The most reliable way is to create a video that people watch to the end and want to share. These are exactly the signals that TikTok describes as strong.

1. Get straight to the point. In the first few seconds, show what the video is about and why it is worth staying.
2. Adjust the length to suit the idea. A shorter video that viewers watch to the end sends a better signal than a long one that they leave early.
3. Write captions and hashtags related to the topic. TikTok lists them among the video information it uses to make recommendations. It does not state an official "correct" number of hashtags, so try different options and compare the results.
4. Give people a reason to respond. A question at the end, a continuation in the next video, or a reply to a comment leads to comments and shares.
5. Monitor your own statistics. In video analytics, compare which videos keep viewers watching the longest and where they come from. TikTok does not generally state an ideal posting time, so you can find it by looking at when your audience is active.
6. Publish regularly. More videos mean more data about what works.

When paid promotion makes sense and when it does not?
