You can download Instagram for free from the official app stores: on iPhone and iPad from the App Store, and on Android phones from Google Play. Simply search for “Instagram”, check that it is the official app from Instagram, and select Get or Install. How do I download Instagram to an iPhone or iPad?

1. Open the App Store app.
2. Tap Search and type “Instagram”.
3. Check that Instagram, Inc. is listed as the developer of the app.
4. Tap Get and confirm the installation with Face ID, Touch ID or your Apple Account password.
5. After the installation is complete, open Instagram from your home screen and log in or create an account.

According to the App Store, the app is over 600 MB, so check your available storage before downloading. If the installation does not start, check your system version in Settings under General.

How do I download Instagram to an Android phone?

On Android, Instagram is installed from the Google Play Store by tapping Install. The process follows the general guide in the Google Play Help.

1. Open the Google Play Store app (or the play.google.com website in your browser).
2. Enter “Instagram” in the search field.
3. Select the Instagram app and make sure it is published by Instagram.
4. Tap Install and wait for the process to finish.

According to Google, apps are linked to your Google Account, so you can easily install Instagram on other devices using the same account. Google Play also states that apps are protected by Google Play Protect.

How do you recognise the official app and avoid falling for a fake?

You can recognise the official Instagram by its developer and by the fact that links from the official website lead to it about.instagram.com. As of November 2026, it links to the App Store and Google Play, where the app has the identifier com.instagram.android.

• Do not download installation files (APK) from unknown websites. Modified versions of Instagram promising “extra features” are not from Instagram and may not be safe.
• Do not enter your password anywhere other than Instagram. Instagram in its tips on securing your account advises never sharing login details with an app you do not trust, because such an app then gains full control over the account.
• Downloading is free of charge. If a website asks you to pay a fee for the app itself, it is not an official channel.

Can Instagram be used on a computer without downloading anything?

Yes, Instagram also works in a web browser at instagram.com, where you log in with the same account as on your phone. The official Instagram website lists web login alongside the mobile apps.

What should I set up right after installation?

After installation, log in or create an account and enable two-factor authentication straight away. Instagram describes it in its Help Centre as the most effective step to protect your account from hackers.

2. Choose a strong password that you do not use elsewhere. Instagram recommends a combination of at least six numbers, letters and special characters.
3. Enable two-factor authentication (a code when logging in from an unknown device).
4. Also secure the e-mail address linked to your account, as it can be used to take over the account.

How do I download my own data from Instagram?

You can download a copy of your photos, videos, messages and other data through Accounts Center, in the Export your information menu. The procedure is described in Instagram's Help Centre page on downloading information (as of November 2026; item names in the Czech version may differ slightly).

1. In the app, open the More menu and then Settings.
2. Go to Accounts Center and select Your information and permissions.
3. Tap Export your information and select Export to device.
4. Choose which types of information you want, the period, media quality and file format.
5. Wait for the e-mail with the link and then download the export.

Instagram states that the link may take up to 30 days to arrive and that a completed export remains available for 4 days in the Available Downloads section. Data can also be sent to an external service instead of your device. High-quality videos increase the file size, so please check your available storage in advance.

May I download other people's photos and videos from Instagram?

Please be careful. Other people's photos and videos belong to their authors, and Instagram in its community guidelines asks you to share only content that you have created yourself or have the right to share.

The Terms of Use also prohibit attempts at unauthorised or automated collection of information without express permission. Web-based “downloaders” that ask for your login details are therefore doubly risky: they endanger your account and may breach the rules.
